Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (Energy SaaS)
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Team: Cloud Platform & Energy SaaS
R-Materials is building a new class of energy infrastructure based on superconducting wire systems, AI-based online control, and SMES energy storage, unlocking performance levels that conventional power systems cannot reach. As global computing, AI, and energy demands accelerate, traditional copper-based infrastructure has reached its physical limits. We believe this moment demands a fundamentally different approach to how electricity is transmitted, controlled, and stored.
R-Materials is turning superconductivity into deployable, continuously operating infrastructure for data centers, energy systems, and critical facilities. If you are motivated by hard physical problems, real-world deployment, and the challenge of translating deep physics into operational systems, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you will architect and own the cloud platform that controls and monitors superconducting energy systems across multiple sites.
Your work will transform physical energy infrastructure into a secure, scalable SaaS platform, enabling real-time visibility, control, and intelligence across distributed systems. You will collaborate closely with embedded, controls, AI, security, and application teams to ensure the platform is reliable, observable, and safe to operate.
This is a senior, system-ownership role where architecture, reliability, and security matter as much as code.
Key Responsibilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field plus 7+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent applied experience
• Strong experience designing and operating cloud-native platforms (AWS preferred)
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, containerized workloads, and distributed systems
• Experience building and operating APIs at scale (REST and/or gRPC)
• Strong understanding of system reliability, monitoring, and incident response
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform or equivalent)
• Ability to reason about tradeoffs in scalability, security, and performance
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
