Cloud Platform Engineer (Energy SaaS)

Location: Tallahassee, FL

Team: Cloud Platform & Energy SaaS

R-Materials is building a new class of energy infrastructure based on superconducting wire systems, AI-based online control, and SMES energy storage, unlocking performance levels that conventional power systems cannot reach.

As global computing, AI, and energy demands accelerate, traditional copper-based infrastructure has reached its physical limits. We believe this moment demands a fundamentally different approach to how electricity is transmitted, controlled, and stored.

R-Materials is turning superconductivity into deployable, continuously operating infrastructure for data centers, energy systems, and critical facilities. If you are motivated by hard physical problems, real-world deployment, and the challenge of translating deep physics into operational systems, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you will build and operate the cloud services that monitor, control, and scale superconducting energy systems.
You will work closely with senior platform engineers, application engineers, embedded teams, and AI engineers to implement backend services, APIs, and infrastructure that connect physical energy systems to operators and customers.
This role is ideal for engineers who want hands-on experience building reliable, cloud-native systems for mission-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop backend services and APIs for monitoring and controlling energy infrastructure
• Implement cloud-native services that support real-time telemetry, control, and observability
• Support deployment, scaling, and monitoring of production cloud systems
• Collaborate with embedded and control teams to integrate edge systems with cloud services
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code workflows
• Assist in troubleshooting, incident response, and system improvements
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and design discussions
• Follow best practices for security, reliability, and scalability

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field
• 3–5 years of experience in backend or cloud platform engineering
• Experience building services on cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Familiarity with containerized applications and Kubernetes
• Experience building REST APIs and backend services
• Basic experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

• Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS architectures
• Experience with time-series data, telemetry, or streaming systems
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform or equivalent)
• Interest in industrial, IoT, or energy-related platforms
• Experience working with distributed systems

Export Compliance

This role may involve access to technologies subject to U.S. export control regulations.
Employment is contingent upon eligibility to comply with applicable export control laws.
