Safety & Reliability Engineer
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Team: Safety, Reliability & Systems Assurance
R-Materials is building a new class of energy infrastructure based on superconducting wire systems, AI-based online control, and SMES energy storage, unlocking performance levels that conventional power systems cannot reach.
As global computing, AI, and energy demands accelerate, traditional copper-based infrastructure has reached its physical limits. We believe this moment demands a fundamentally different approach to how electricity is transmitted, controlled, and stored.
R-Materials is turning superconductivity into deployable, continuously operating infrastructure for data centers, energy systems, and critical facilities. If you are motivated by hard physical problems, real-world deployment, and the challenge of translating deep physics into operational systems, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
As a Safety & Reliability Engineer, you will support the analysis, testing, and validation of safety-critical behavior across superconducting energy systems. You will work alongside senior engineers and cross-functional teams to identify risks, analyze failures, and improve system robustness across hardware, software, and operational layers. This role is ideal for engineers who want to develop deep expertise in system assurance and reliability engineering.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with hazard analysis, failure mode analysis, and risk assessment
• Support development of safety requirements and reliability targets
• Participate in testing, validation, and fault-injection activities
• Analyze incidents, near-misses, and test results to improve system robustness
• Collaborate with control, embedded, and cloud teams on safe system behavior
• Contribute to safety documentation and traceability
• Follow best practices for safety-critical engineering
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM field
• 2–5 years of experience in reliability, safety, systems engineering, or related roles
• Familiarity with failure analysis concepts and reliability engineering fundamentals
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and work across teams
Nice to Have
• Exposure to energy systems, industrial equipment, or critical infrastructure
• Familiarity with FMEA, FTA, or similar analysis methods
• Interest in safety standards or compliance frameworks
• Experience supporting testing or validation programs
