Application / UX Engineer (Control UI)
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Team: Application & Control Interface
R-Materials is building a new class of energy infrastructure based on superconducting wire systems, AI-based online control, and SMES energy storage, unlocking performance levels that conventional power systems cannot reach. As global computing, AI, and energy demands accelerate, traditional copper-based infrastructure has reached its physical limits. We believe this moment demands a fundamentally different approach to how electricity is transmitted, controlled, and stored.
R-Materials is turning superconductivity into deployable, continuously operating infrastructure for data centers, energy systems, and critical facilities. If you are motivated by hard physical problems, real-world deployment, and the challenge of translating deep physics into operational systems, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
As an Application / UX Engineer (Control UI), you will implement and refine user interfaces for monitoring and controlling superconducting energy systems. You will work closely with senior UX engineers, backend platform teams, AI engineers, and controls engineers to build interfaces that are responsive, understandable, and reliable under real-world conditions. This role is ideal for engineers who want to grow expertise in complex UI systems and human-in-the-loop design.
Key Responsibilities
• Build dashboards and control interfaces for real-time system monitoring
• Implement UI components for alerts, system states, and operator workflows
• Collaborate with backend and control teams to integrate real-time data streams
• Support usability testing and incorporate feedback into design improvements
• Contribute to frontend architecture, performance, and code quality
• Maintain clear documentation and UI behavior definitions
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design Engineering, or a related field
• 2–5 years of experience building frontend or full-stack web applications
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, or similar)
• Familiarity with REST APIs and real-time data handling
• Strong attention to usability and visual clarity
• Good communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
• Experience with data visualization or dashboard design
• Exposure to industrial, IoT, or operational software
• Familiarity with time-series or streaming data
• Interest in safety-critical or control-system interfaces
